THE ALAMEDA
QUEER HISTORY PROJECT
ABOUT US
The Alameda Queer History Project (AQHP) is a living digital archive dedicated to preserving oral histories and documenting the broader history of Alameda’s LGBTQIA+ community.
As a queer-affirming, inclusive, and justice-seeking church, FCCA Alameda is honored to support this effort by helping collect and preserve the stories of local LGBTQ+ community members. This project is our gift to the community, but more importantly, it is a gift the community gives itself. Through the memories, experiences, and voices of those who participate, we hope to create a living record of Alameda's queer history...one that honors the past, celebrates the present, and connects generations to come.
This initiative is grounded in the belief that stories matter. Recording the lives, challenges, achievements, relationships, and everyday experiences of queer people in Alameda helps ensure that this history is not lost. The project seeks to create a lasting repository of community memory that reflects the many people who have shaped Alameda’s cultural and social life.
Our hope is that this project will document and preserve the experiences of queer residents who have shaped our community, share local LGBTQ+ history with future generations, and create a lasting record that honors the lives, relationships, and contributions of Alameda’s queer community.
